When Should you Buy Sofa Slipcovers? Your sofa is a wreck. The seat cushions are awful and the armrests look bad from years of sweaty palms and hair products left behind when you used it as a head rest for afternoon naps. You have done everything you can think of. Steam cleaned, shampooed and vacuumed. While the sofa smells almost brand-new, it is hopelessly stained with dark discoloring that no deep cleaning seems to remove or lighten up. But you can change the entire appearance with one simple sofa slipcover.
Although some of these restrictions have relaxed in today's upholstery shops, covers seem likely to dominate. Fitted slipcovers are placed over the piece of furniture in moments, cutting down on the excessive time demands of upholstery. In order to have a piece reupholstered, an owner has to submit the order weeks in advance, and it might still face delays. Many decorating-savvy people enjoy the speed and efficiency of a slipcover in comparison. In addition, covers are much more cost effective. They are a fraction of the price charged for typical re-upholstery, and the price won't vary depending on the intricacy of the job. Because upholstery requires that the craftsman tailor his or her design to the form of the piece, it is much more demanding than a simple fitted slipcover.
Engineer closing flaps with overlapping sections of band near the arms and back. Indicate button-and-loop closure placement. Mark matching notches and construction notes on the muslin. Make skirt, creating overlaps to match band overlaps. Mark center of legs for inverted pleat. 7. Take apart, fold seat muslin at center, cut out pattern adding seam allowances. Add seam allowances to band and skirt sections. 8. Finish interior of chair cover with folded up edges and hems (below). Attach button loops to inside, too.
Prepare a muslin pattern - Once you’ve completely pinned and fitted the muslin on the chair, stand back and take a look. How do the proportions look? How about the location of the band’s overlapping closures? If your eye is satisfied, unpin the muslin from the chair, separate the components, and lay them flat. Use a French curve and a straightedge to fine-tune the seamlines, darts, and other markings. Add seam allowances to the seat, band, and skirt. Add the fabric needed for the inverted pleats (they should be at least 2 in. deep), along with hem allowances to the skirt pattern.
